Shiatsu if received regularly can alleviate the build-up of stresses and strains, as well as maintain or enhance overall health and well-being.
As well as helping with general symptoms of stress and tension, Shiatsu can help with as specific issues, including:
Anxiety & depression
Back, neck and shoulder pain
Joint pain and reduced mobility
Low energy and tiredness
Shiatsu is also good for those 'niggly' health problems that have 'no apparent cause' or those 'feelings of just not being right'.
What to expect?
Shiatsu sessions last between one hr and one hr 15 mins. Your first appointment may last up to 90 minutes as it starts with a discussion on the state of your health and any symptoms you may be experiencing. A confidential case history is taken on lifestyle, energy levels and general health, including details of any medication you are taking. The first session is used to put together an individual treatment plan and is always specific to you on the day of the treatment.
Guidelines for receiving Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a clothed therapy. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing and socks, preferably cotton or natural fibers, You should avoid eating a heavy meal in the two hours prior to your appointment and avoid alcohol before or after the treatment. To experience the full benefits of Shiatsu it is important to have time to relax after the treatment, ideally you should avoid demanding or strenuous commitments. It is important to stay hydrated after your session; drinking plenty of water will assist the flow of changes that your body will experience.
What to expect during a Shiatsu treatment?
Treatments are normally given on a comfortable futon mattress on the floor with the receiver wearing loose comfortable clothing to allow freedom of movement. Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing experience. The whole body is usually treated using finger and palm pressure and sometimes, if needed, using elbows, knees and feet along the energy pathways and specific acupressure points, Gentle rotations and stretches of joints and limbs are also included to help restore the body's natural alignment. Treatments are tailored to each client and will be different at each session.
No two sessions are ever the same; after a Shiatsu treatment you may feel invigorated yet relaxed and have a feeling of increased vitality. Clients often describe their Shiatsu experience as relaxing or invigorating or that they feel open, wider, straighter, taller, free and able to breathe deeply; these are just some of the interesting comments that we receive.
Seated treatments are also available. What happens after a treatment?
Mostly you will have an overall feeling of increased well-being. Occasionally you may experience mild side effects such as headaches, tiredness and flu-like symptoms as your body rids itself of impurities and toxins; generally this lasts no longer than a day or two and are part of the healing process. If you have any concerns about the symptoms or feelings that you have following the Shiatsu please call me.
The initial appointment will last up to 90 minutes in order to formulate an individual treatment plan for you. Subsequent appointments last between 1 hr and 1 hr 15 mins.
